Paradise Bay on Kuningan Day
There are many, many Balinese Hindu celebrations!
One of the special ones is Kuningan Day. It is celebrated every 6 months and always 10 days after Galungan.
So, on this very special day, which happened to be celebrated on Friday and Saturday, the 29th and 30th of August 2008, Surfer Girl’s super creative team put together an awesome show in the Surfer Girl shop window on Jl. Legian, Kuta… the theme was ‘Ethnic Bali’. Of course, the show was complete with Surfer Girl’s live mannequin models, all dressed up in the latest Surfer Girl garb “Paradise Bay” combined with traditional Balinese sarongs and ornaments. How unique!
On Saturday, the last day of Kuningan celebrations, traditional Balinese dancers joined Surfer Girl’s live mannequins! They performed two types of dances: Tari Legong Kraton and Tari Oleg. It was soooo beautiful. Afterwards, Summer and Niki got really excited and we’re talking about studying Balinese dance again :) Summer said that when she was little, she had learned some Balinese dance, but because she hasn’t practiced in so long she’s forgotten a lot of the moves. While chatting in the changing rooms, they asked the dancers where they studied and who their teacher was, just in case they got serious about taking dance lessons again.
The evening show totally captured the traditional Balinese festivity feeling… and all at the Surfer Girl Surf Shop. This could be why so many people stopped by to watch and enjoy, some even took photos and video recordings. Seeing so many people having such a great time makes me want to be a part of more events like this. We’ll just have to wait and see what more surprises the creative team at Surfer Girl has in store!
